Prevent Android Market From Updating

For some, there are a number of problems when the Market updates. Some experience freezes, while others may prefer the old layout. Even worse, some no longer have access to the same apps they once did. In any case, there are some out there who just don’t want that Market to update.

XDA forum member lexelby may have come up with a solution to this problem. It’s a method that should be universally compatible with all Android devices. All you need is a rooted phone to get started.

The method is simple, and only takes a few minutes to execute. . . . READ ON »

Dual Boot ROMs on the LG GT540

Dual booting is just fun. Being able to show your friends that you can boot into two different ROMs is bragging rights enough. However, dual booting can also be useful. Perhaps one ROM for business, one for pleasure, for example. In any case, when a phone gets the ability to dual boot, it’s worth trying at least once.

For owners of the LG GT540 Optimus, you now have the ability to dual boot ROMs thanks to work by XDA Senior Member Sardonis. Using his method, one ROM is loaded from internal memory, while the other resides on an . . . READ ON »

Tweak and Measure Performance With Benchmark and Tuning

From Quadrant to AnTuTu and from SetCPU to Voltage Control, there are plenty of benchmark and tuning applications available on Android. Most of them are reliable, although some benchmarks are a little outdated. Luckily, there are newer apps coming out all the time that help keep things up and running.

Enter Benchmark & Tuning. XDA forum member cgollner has developed this application to compete with the aforementioned tuning and benchmark apps by providing both services in one application.

The features are pretty standard and include:

This app is a must have if you want to run a quick but precise

Liberate Your Unlocked Sensation or EVO 3D with Dumlock

When we first learned that HTC would be unlocking the bootloaders of its devices, enthusiasts everywhere relished the idea of complete device freedom. Later, HTC started to make true on its promise by unlocking its Verizon and AT&T bootloaders.

Unfortunately, though, all was not perfect with HTC’s unlock tool. Unlocking an HTC Sensation or EVO 3D using the official method results in being unable to flash to the boot partition via recovery. Instead, the more cumbersome fastboot protocol must be used.

Now thanks to XDA Recognized Developer Dees_Troy of TeamWin, we have a solution. The aptly titled HTC Dumlock allows users owners . . . READ ON »

Sky Go Running On ICS, Unsupported Devices–Hide Your Root Though

If you read our previous story on Sky’s new on-the-go app, then you are already familiar with the issues many users are faced with. If not then here’s the tl:dr:

  • Support for only seven phone (no tablets)
  • No ICS compatibility

Since the application was made available on the market a few days ago, yet another issue has arisen. Users with rooted devices are not able to access content either.

The issue, according to Recognized Developer LennyUK, is as follows:

Basically it needs to think you are on a stock rom with a stock kernel of a supported device. The then you need

ssLauncher Brings a Unique Look to the Launcher Market

Launchers hold a special place in the Android world as the application that all Android users use the most. The homescreens, the dock, the app drawer, all of it is apart of the launcher experience and you literally cannot turn your device on without encountering the launcher.

Enter ssLauncher, a unique, reportedly lightweight and free launcher in the . . . READ ON »

Xperiment Shop Open and Ready for Requests for Custom Graphics

Graphics can be hard to come by if you don’t have any money. Either they cost a lot and look really cool or they cost nothing, look really cool but the artist is up to their eye balls in requests.

To help take the load of the free graphics artists, XDA Member Xperiment2012 has started a thread where members can order up free custom graphics. Why, you may ask? Says Xperiment2012:

I am making free GFX for anyone who wants one. I am not a PRO and this is mainly an entertaining way for me to practice and also offer

Full Touch Recovery Released for Some Sony Ericsson, Huawei and Samsung Phones

Choosing your recovery is a big deal. For most people, they’re luck enough to get at least one good one and it’s usually ClockworkMod Recovery. On other devices, though, users can have two, three up to half a dozen choices for their recoveries. For some select devices, they now even have the option for a touch recovery or a recovery you can use sans the hardware keys.

XDA Recognized Developer DooMLoRD and XDA Senior Member Napster or Team UtterChaos have been working hard to get their special blend of touch screen recovery out to as many phones as possible.

Get a Tablet UI on CyanogenMod9 for the Atrix 4g

For those of us who don’t have tablets, we often find ourselves envious of those who do have tablets. The giant screen, the extra features and the slick user interfaces, to name a few. Sometimes, it’s a little fun to grab up a tablet-like feature just to feel the love.

Well, thanks to XDA Senior Member AndroidON, users who are carrying the Motorola Atrix 4g can experience a little bit of the tablet goodness with a mod that will give Atrix users a tablet UI.

BroodROM Configurator Allows For Post Flash Customization

One of the most fun things about flashing a custom ROM is finding out about all the add ons that developers sometimes leave out of the change log. A new font, a themed keyboard, having the Facebook widget match the theme (for once). However, flashing mods and tweaks can be a pain in the behind.

Enter BroodROM Configurator. XDA Senior Member broodplank1337 has devised this nifty tool to allow users of the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 to choose their features on a ROM and installing them without needing Terminal Emulator or flashing via recovery.

The Configurator has a plethora of . . . READ ON »

Samsung Galaxy Note Review

Samsung Galaxy Note Review

The Galaxy Note isn’t short on power. It’s also not short, well, in general. With the device featuring a 5.3″ HD Super AMOLED 1280×800 display, that puts it a step higher than the Galaxy Nexus. But with all the hype from Samsung and their avid fans, does it live up to expectations? For this review I’m using the European variant, which has a different button arrangement on the bottom of the device.

Hardware

When I first held the Note, it reminded me of the Galaxy S II. The design is almost exactly the same. It doesn’t surprise me Samsung would use . . . READ ON »
